Wimbledon Introduces Video Challenge System in 2025.

The Championships court with replay technology

Wimbledon will follow the US and Australian Opens in implementing video review technology.

Video review systems will make its debut at The Championships in the upcoming tournament.

Athletes will gain the ability to question certain rulings from the chair umpire, echoing the system already in operation at each of the American Grand Slam and the Australian Open.

The new system will be accessible on the main stadium and Court One for the duration of the tournament and on the other four featured courts when they are staging singles contests.

This step follows just a year after the All England Club introduced electronic line calling, which terminated the longstanding tradition of line officials.

Scope of Challenges

Players will not be permitted to dispute the call of the electronic line calling, but they can ask for the official to review specific situations, including:

  • Whether a ball has double-bounced.
  • If a ball made contact with an opponent's racquet or body on the way past.
  • Possible interference end of a point.

Notably, there will be no limit on the number of reviews a competitor can ask for.

Case in Point

An illustrative incident occurred in a recent tournament recently, where Daniil Medvedev used the review system against his opponent.

The British player conceded it was a tough situation for the official, but thought his rival had "used the regulations quite well."

The umpire viewed a replay and determined Draper was responsible for hindrance, granting the rally to Medvedev.

Broader Adoption

Video reviews are not new for Grand Slams. It was adopted at the American major for two years and the Australian Open since 2025.

Furthermore, it is increasingly prevalent on the WTA circuit, and by the coming year the men's ATP Tour plans to have the system implemented at all of its events.

Further Updates

Another change at The Championships this year involves the introduction of visual indicators on displays to complement the verbal announcements from the ELC system.

This solves instances where fans have sometimes been unsure if a ball was out or in.

Finally, with precisely a century of days remaining until the start of the Championships, the AELTC have also revealed an expansion in daily capacity at the qualifying competition in the qualifying venue.
