The star has donated the complete sum of his twenty-five thousand pound award winnings to the MVT, which operates to preserve the United Kingdom's independent live music spots.

He was presented with the cheque on 16 October as his third album his work was declared the top album of the past year.

He has opted to donate the funds to the trust, in appreciation of the crucial part local spots played in his beginning days.

"As an artist would not have achieved what I am doing today if it wasn't for all the shows I did around the North East, and further afield, when I was just getting going," stated the artist. "These locations are legendary, but they are in difficulty."

Beginning in 2023, over 150 of these spaces have shut down – about 16% of the total UK scene.

Recently, well-known musicians like Pulp, the group Coldplay, Katy Perry and Ed Sheeran have all backed the Music Venues Trust in its initiatives to support the industry, by applying a minor surcharge to their ticket costs, which benefits local stages.

Sam Fender also joined in, raising in excess of £100,000 on his recent tour to assist numerous grassroots venues across the UK.

These funds helped venues that were dealing with imminent closure due to challenges caused by water damage, blazes and personal losses, as well as permit problems, conflicts and noise complaints.

Additional spaces were granted funding support in upgrading amenities and technical equipment that helped performers and concertgoers.

"The concept that funds from performances in large arenas supports the local stages, where it begins for artists like me, is just common sense," Sam Fender has stated.

The musician is far from the only musician to give his Mercury Prize winnings to charitable organizations.

When Pulp received the prize in the mid-90s for their record their work, vocalist the singer stated that the group would contribute their prize money to the charity War Child.

That year, musician Ms Dynamite shared her prize among several charities, such as the NSPCC and a Sickle Cell organization.

"Additionally, I contributed a £1,000 to the center, to their classes, because I did gymnastics when I was growing up and they needed new equipment," she shared with the media.

Two years ago, they donated their winnings to the community center that developed their group, in addition to other independent music bodies.

Additionally winners that year they donated their winnings to a charity for MS after a close contact was found to have the illness.

"Winning was sufficient," remarked vocalist the singer. "The money was the cherry on top but we didn't require the cherry, because we had the honor. So our success affected another person's life."

Last week, the Music Venues Trust revealed it had rescued a couple of grassroots venues in the South East, by placing them under community ownership.

One venue in the city and The Croft in Bristol were purchased under the Own Our Venues program, which is supported by a national body and supporters who buy "shares" in the venues.
