'It's like they never miss a pass': Swansea's Ethan Galbraith renews contest with Manchester City.

Ethan Galbraith can't help but smile as he recalls the thrilling closing stages of Swansea's stunning fightback triumph against Nottingham Forest in the League Cup. The encounter wrapped up with Galbraith briefly donning a fan's glasses after the pitch-side pile-on.

As the match entered added time, Galbraith struck the post with a powerful shot from 25 yards, and Cameron Burgess quickly hammered in the deflection before sprinting toward the East Stand to revel in the moment, with supporters swarming the players.

Remarkable Recovery

The result sealed an incredible comeback given the Welsh side had found themselves down 2-0 during the final 45 minutes. In the celebrations, there was some unintended consequences. Galbraith explained, "There was a supporter sort of calling out and we were thinking: 'What's he on about here?' Then we spotted the glasses. It was a light-hearted moment putting them on. We are on the pitch as players but we're individuals, too, so to have a laugh with the fans is always good."

Premier League Giants

The victory booked a fourth-round match at home against the Premier League champions on Wednesday, a team Galbraith came close against at the equivalent round of the FA Cup with Leyton Orient in February. Galbraith had a prime vantage point when his former team took the lead in remarkable manner, with the attacker's volley from about 45 yards going in via the woodwork and the City goalkeeper. It feels criminal that it was recorded as an own goal.

"You would have expected they would've given it to him for taking the effort on from that distance," says Galbraith, who played in the middle before switching to right wing-back after they changed tactics. That meant facing off against City's winger, with whom he exchanged jerseys, and the player was among the Manchester squad who paid tribute to the way the underdogs attacked the game.

Opponent's Class

"Athletically they are very good but even the fundamentals and basic skills, they can just do it over and over again," the midfielder notes. "It appears that they always find their target and they understand how to manage and take the sting out of a game. You can think you're all right and then without warning they will just fizz a pass through a line without you even spotting it. You have to be alert every second of the game. It demands a tough attitude and focus just to stay in the game."

Swansea Move

The Welsh side were keen on Galbraith in January and fought off rivals to sign him in the summer in a significant move. He made a name as a crowd pleaser across multiple campaigns at Orient and has rapidly done the same in Wales. At his previous team he joined forces once more with his former manager, who four years ago gave Galbraith his first extended run in senior football on loan at Doncaster from Old Trafford. Then came a spell at fourth-tier the Manchester club, before he permanently left his boyhood club.

Development Path

"I was perhaps a somewhat inexperienced going into senior level. I think a lot of players would say under-23s football is completely distinct. Sometimes it seems play is circulated without much intensity. You see few physical contests. Once you start playing first-team football you have to adjust fast."

National Team Success

He has shown that development for both domestically and internationally, shining for his national side, who are fighting to qualify for the international competition next summer via the knockout phase and for whom he has been selected in the recent fixtures, including both legs games against the German national team. Ian Baraclough, Galbraith's previous international manager, gave him the ultimate compliment, saying he was Northern Ireland's "little Iniesta or Xavi" given how he controls possession and his ability to spot a killer pass.

Early Days

It has been a remarkable path for the youngster from the neighborhood in the Belfast suburb, just outside Belfast, who used to see his father, the elder Galbraith, also a engine room operator, play for Ballyclare Comrades.

Red Devils Debut

Galbraith's sole appearance for United came in the away trip in 2019, a Europa League trip to the Kazakh capital, where they featured on an plastic turf and the stadium roof was closed owing to temperatures of freezing cold. "That proved to be a long trip and it was chilly," he comments, smiling. "The week before, the academy prospects practiced as a group, so that helped us acclimatise. Just to accompany the senior squad and earn some playing time at the end was unbelievable."

Moving On

How difficult was it to move on from Old Trafford, the club he signed from his boyhood team aged his mid-teens? "This turned out quite easy, because I reached the point where I understood I couldn't establish myself at the top level. I'm hugely grateful for the experience gained but it became apparent where I believed I required a fresh start, drop down the leagues and play men's football. Now I'm steadily working my way back up."

New Environment

This occurs during the middle of the day at the team's practice facility but Galbraith has an appointment at 5pm: a road rules assessment, another move in the direction of getting on the road. Until recently to his new neighborhood, the 24-year-old was a regular in Swansea's dubbed fun bus, a small coach driven by club employees, Pete and Howard, which shuttles players to and from sessions and fixtures.

"It's myself Gonçalo Franco, Ronald, the midfielder – a former passenger used to be in it but has begun using his own car. It's enjoyable to interact with the teammates but I'm hoping to be the subsequent individual to stop using the bus and behind the wheel. The Portuguese player enjoys practical jokes; he's frequently playing tricks."

Public Engagement

When he represented Orient, Galbraith would blend in with followers on public transport after starting his journey at the area he lived in. "I tried|I attempted|My aim
